Westcliff University Athletics announced Tuesday that Sam Shaffer will be promoted to associate head coach of the Softball team.

“Sam is a bright and creative young coach who was highly respected throughout the Golden State Athletic Conference as a player, and is now heading into her second year as coach, being an integral part of the formation of our inaugural Softball season at Westcliff,” said Dean of Athletics, Shawn Harris. “Sam’s ability to inspire student-athletes on and off the field is infectious and I look forward to watching that passion spread into the new era of Warrior Softball.”

Shaffer joined the Westcliff softball staff in May of 2019 after recently graduating from Vanguard University with a B.S. in Kinesiology.

While at Vanguard, Shaffer earned three All-Conference Player Awards and a 2019 Player of the Year Award. Shaffer was also a two-time All-American and was selected 2019 Vanguard University Female Athlete of the Year.  Apart from her feats on the field, Coach Shaffer helped mentor and coach young girls to improve their skills on the diamond with hitting and catching drills, along with getting experience and knowledge in an office setting.

Westcliff is excited to have Shaffer on its Softball staff for the upcoming inaugural season in 2021 as the team’s new associate head coach.
